Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Cono Weeder

It is a simple agriculture equipment used for weeding paddy fields where row sowing is used. The weeder has 1 plastic float, handle and 2 cones having serrated and plane blades which uproots the weeds and level the soil when it is moved forward and backward (push pull operation) between the rows.

How cono weeder helps in weeding when the paddy is sown using drum seeder or in case of Row plantation of paddy plants.

The weeder is so designed that it works efficiently between two rows of paddy crop in wet field condition.

When should cono weeder be used

The first weeding is done after 10-12 days of sowing. Subsequent weedings should be done every 10 days.

Ideal Field condition for the use of cono weeder

The field should be irrigated one day before weeding and atleast half inch water is retained for easy operation. The weeder should be used between the rows.

How much area is covered by using cono weeder in one man day

It covers app 0.10 to 0.12 ha/day per person in 8 hrs

What parts of the cono weeder replaceable or available as spares

All parts of the cono weeder are readily available with all dealers and can also be ordered online using our website.

What is an estimated life of cono weeder

If used and stored carefully, the cono weeder can offer many years of satisfying service, since any damaged part can be easily replaced.

Can the cono seeder be used for step paddy farming on hills

Yes, provided the fields are uniform and drainage efficient, as instructed in the users’ manual.

Why is manual cono weeder more popular than motorized weeders

Our manual cono weeder is low cost equipment which requires no to minimal maintenance cost and can be operated by one person.

What are the advantages of cono weeder

Enhances the utilization of biomass

Facilitates proper aeration in the soil

Promotes healthy growth of the root system and

consequently the plant

Provides earthing up effect facilitating plants to produce

new roots which help additional nutrients uptake

Increased yields as a result of more productive tillers,

large pannicle size, more number of grains per panicle

and increased grain weight

Is the drum seeder an alternative to broadcast sowing of paddy

No, it is an alternative to transplantation of paddy saplings, which is a labor-intensive process involving heavy expenditure.

What parts of the drum seeder replaceable or available as spares

All parts of the drum seeder are readily available with all dealers and can also be ordered online using our website.

What is an estimated life of drum seeder

If used and stored carefully, the drum seeder can offer many years of satisfying service, since any damaged part can be easily replaced.

Can the drum seeder be used for step paddy farming on hills

Yes, provided the fields are uniform and drainage efficient, as instructed in the users’ manual.

Why is the drum seeder not motorized for easy maneuverability

Because, motor driven drum seeder will increase the cost of equipment considerably, there is no service backup and the spares are not available in the market, which turns too expensive for an economical output. Therefore, this manually driven drum seeder has been specially designed for easy maneuverability and handling

Can different varieties of seeds be sown using the drum seeder

Yes, our drum seeder has sowing apertures of two sizes, which are placed alternately in each row. These two sizes cover nearly all grain sizes. The plugs of the required grain size are simply pulled out and the rest remain plugged.

While sowing, how does the user know when to refill the drums

The lower half of the drums are specially made of transparent poly propylene so that the level of the seeds is easily visible.

How much seed is approximately required for one acre of sowing

The seed rate will vary with seed variety but approximately 10-12 Kgs per acre

When not in use, how can the drum seeder be safely stored

If possible retain the packing box of the drum seeder, after sowing dismantle the drum seeder and keep it back in the packing box. Be assured that there are no rats in the storage area. Rats are known to damage plastic parts of all farming equipments.

Is there any subsidy available on drum seeders from government?

There is subsidy available on the drum seeder, although it varies from State to State.

As per the Sub-Mission on Agriculture Mechanization 2014 (Operational Guidelines) Government of India Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, New Delhi  pg 35 under Financial Assistance for procurement of agriculture machinery and equipment- 40% to 50% subsidy is available.

What is the effect on yield of Rice crop when Drum seeder is used as apposed to transplantation.

As pre the report of IJISET Vol I issue 9, Nov 2014- Maximum yield of 37.5 q/Ha was observed as against 27 q/ha by traditional methods.
