Advantages:
Hydroponics system can be done outside or indoors round the year, and it has many advantages :
- Smaller area is required: Grow plants and vegetables in your balcony, rooftop, terrace and even basement.
- No soil no weeds: Weeds can’t grow without soil.
- Faster growth: Complete Nutrition and water is provided to the plant and roots. The plant’s energy is used to build up shoots and leaves/fruits. It is observed that the plants under this technology grow 25% faster than the conventional methods.
- High yield: Plants are scientifically sown, resulting in higher yield. In a fine-tuned hydroponic system, plants will produce 30% more when compared to plants grown directly on the soil.
- Water Saving: Since water is recirculated in this system there is no wastage of water.
- Protection from vagaries of Nature: Plants are grown in protective atmosphere.
- Round the year production: In a controlled climate the plants can be grown around the year.
- Clean and healthy plants: The plants are not carrying any soil or dirt.
- Easy to harvest: Just pick up the plant, the harvesting is done.
- Consistent quality: Due to the use of high quality of seeds, the quality of yield is similar.
- No soil-related diseases or insects: Insects and root diseases arising from soil are absolutely absent.
- Improves the aesthetics: Your garden will look very good and you will be eating health food.
Layout of Hydroponics
- Horizontal or Flat bed
- Vertical
- Multi level
Horizontal
In this type of layout the Hydroponics system is installed horizontally at one level. This system is normally used where we have large area and the plant height is high.
Vertical
The hydroponics system is installed vertically and many plants can grow around the tower up till a height of 6-7 feet from the ground. This is ideal for smaller plants. It occupies very little ground area.
Multi Level
In this type of layout the hydroponics system is installed at different levels it is a blend of horizontal and vertical system. In a smaller to medium area this system is very popular.
